New Diet Book Hits Bestseller List Despite Breaking Typical Diet Rules

Sulphur, OK (PRWEB) March 2, 2010

The Full Plate Diet, a healthy eating guide developed by two physicians and a Ph.D. nutritionist, is written in a fun to read, picture book format that doesnt have the feel or sound of a medical textbook though it has the scientific backing of most local doctors. Theres no too good to be true hype, special products or supplements to buy. You can start at your next meal, can follow the diet imperfectly and still achieve results. Just watch how Joe did it.

Despite purposefully breaking with the tried and true, formulaic diet book template, The Full Plate Diet which debuted January 4th, 2010, has (to date) achieved thirty-nine appearances on top national book bestseller lists including: The New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and Publishers Weekly.

The Full Plate Diet is based on a simple, powerful concept the power of fiber-rich foods. The foods are not weird, and are in fact all commonly found in your local grocery store. Ironically, most people simply dont realize how important fiber-rich foods are in helping them lose weight and keep it off. The book shows readers the top 55 fiber-rich foods and how they can add these foods to the meals theyre already eating. Most diets are a quick-fix and each of them comes with a backlash. Because readers are making small changes its easier to stay on The Full Plate Diet.

Fiber-rich foods are common and probably some of your favorites, you just need to eat more of them, says Diana Fleming, Ph.D., L.D.N., co-author of the book. Most fiber-rich foods fill you up and theyre lower in calories. Which means you can lose weight and not feel hungry. This way of eating is sustainable because generally when you focus on eating fiber rich foods, the calories, carbs and fat take care of themselves, Fleming explains.

Medical research supports fiber as a proven way to lose weight and stay healthy. Top professional associations like the Insitute of Medicine, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, American Dietetic Association recommend a high fiber diet, so what were talking about isnt new or gimmicky, Fleming continues.

The average American consumes 12 grams of fiber each day. The Full Plate Diet recommends 40 or more grams per day. Starting The Full Plate Diet is easy says co-author Teresa Sherard, M.D. Lets take a popular breakfast cereal like Corn Flakes; in one serving there is only one gram of fiber, hardly any. But take that same one cup serving and add one cup of raspberries or blackberries and that bowl of cereal is now loaded with 9 grams of fiber. Add a piece of 100% whole wheat bread with a tablespoon of peanut butter and a simple low fiber breakfast has turned into a whopping 13 grams of fiber. Thats more fiber than most Americans get all day long, states Sherard.

The average American is simply not eating enough fiber-rich foods to lose weight. Think about it...the diet encourages someone to eat more, not feel hungry and lose weight at the same time. Who wouldnt enjoy a diet like that? Dr. Fleming concludes.
